Niche

Room function:

Culina/Kitchen

Description:

Located on the east wall of the kitchen was an arched niche. The niche sat 0.62m above a masonry table, beside the hearth. The interior of the niche showed successive layers of stucco, the latest being red and the previous white. On the previous white layer, remnants of red flowers on the walls of the niche could be seen, as well as a figure in yellow on the back, suggested by Boyce to be a Lar. This decoration is not well preserved today. The niche also had a tile projecting base.
