Description:

Located in a small storeroom off the northwest corner of the peristyle, beside the triclinium, was a shrine. It consisted of an arched niche, which sat 1.30m above the floor. The niche was outlined by a dark red stripe, which contrasted against the white stucco around and within the niche. Below the niche were two painted serpents, their heads lining up with the base of the niche. The left serpent’s tail was coiled into a knot. Between the serpents was a flaming altar in the form of a metal brazier, with eggs left as offerings. The background was decorated with candelabra, stripes, and plants, with garlands decorating the border of the scene.
