Description:

Reported in April 1762 was a bronze statuette of a Genius holding a patera and cornucopia and wearing a crown of leaves. The statuette was found during the excavations of the theatre and was suggested to have been the "Genius of the theatre" by excavators. Interestingly, however, this statuette has been wrongly interpreted and is actually a Lar as it shares all the visual attributes (namely its short tunic and sandals). It was moved to the Naples Archaeological museum (museo naz No. 5424). It is likely that this statuette came from a domestic context from near or within the theatre.
