Structural type:

Niche

Room function:

Atrium

Description:

On the west wall of the atrium was a pair of niches. The niches sat side by side at the same level above ground and were both recntangular in shape. The niches both had projecting bases of tile which have now broken off. The niches were placed in the centre of a reddish coloured square of plaster, which appears to have a thin red line around its outside. Based on joist pockets being present below and above the niches, the niches may have been located on a mezzanine level.
