Structural type:

Aediucla, Niche

Room function:

Atrium

Description:

On the south wall of the atrium was a rectangular niche. The niche sart 1.45m above the floor and was set into a panel of white stucco. The niche was framed by a stucco aedicula façade which consisted of two engaged half columns, a projecting cornice, and a pediment. During excavation, a bronze lamp and three bronze statuettes of Fortuna holding a cornucopia and and patera, and the Lares holding rhyton and patera were found. It has recently been argued that the female statuette actually depicted Concordia Augusta rather than Fortuna despite the house being named after the find.
