Aediucla, Wall Painting
Associated

PP440
Room function:
Atrium
Description:
In the northwest corner of the atrium was a masonry base. This was coated in stucco and painted in imitation marble. At the top of the base were three small steps of greyish marble that would have led up to an aedicula. Above the north wall were traces of accompanying cult painting, with the figures of the Lares visible at the time of excavation. The aedicula was built after the decoration of the room, suggesting it was added in the last phases of the house. Only the lower portion of the aedicula and the podium survive today.
