Description:

Against the west wall of the atrium was a cult space. This was comprised of a masonry altar which was coated in yellow stucco and decorated with two serpents on either side. In the wall above the altar was an arched niche that sat 1.0m above the floor. The interior of the niche was coated in red stucco upon which the attributes of Hercules were painted including a club and a skyphos twined with laurel. The niche at the time of recording showed a different painting, bordered with red stripes with realistic roses. On the wall above the niche was a depiction of the Genius carrying a cornucopia and patera, with a Lar on either side. The background was decorated with the upper panel having plants and birds, the interior of the niche having roses, and further plants and flowers around the serpents on the altar. A small panel of imitation marble was painted on the wall between the altar and the bottom of the niche.
