Description:
Room 1 of the house was a cult room. The room had a rectangular plan, with a section in the southwest corner being closed off by stone walls. Within this enclosure was found a column shaft topped with a simple captial, which has been suggested to have been used as an altar or offering table. Remnants of a fountain spout was found in the room, indicating that a fountain featured in the room, likely behind the altar. A section of this fountain has been preserved in the marble form of the lower section of a mans face, with partial moustache, lower lip, and beard present, suggested to be an ocean god. The room was likely the original home to limestone altar found at the house, from which an inscription is dedicated to Jupiter/Zeus from the owner C. Iulius Sylvanus Melanio. The extent of the property is unknown so the full context of the cult room is uncertain.
