Sacrarium/Cult Room
Features:
Aedicula, Mosaic, Podium
Description:
On the north side of the house was a cult room. The room was a rectangular shape, deliminated on its sides by two low walls. Attached to the back wall of the room was a podium/altar (0.64 by 0.64), which likely supported an aedicula. The flooring immediately around this podium was decorated with black and white mosiac. This flooring was in a U-shape with the main motif of a bell shaped krater with two vine stems in the centre, bordered by a line of black tesserae. On both sides of the krater were pigeons facing each other. The mosaic also included depictions of leaves and three pomegrantes. The cult room is the only excavated room in the house with mosaic flooring.
